App Examples by Industry

These are illustrative app concepts showing the screens and features a small business app typically includes in different industries. They are examples of what we can design, not client projects; your own free preview is built from your website.

About these examples

The examples below are illustrative concepts. They describe the kind of app we would typically design for each type of business. They are not client projects, and we have not invented results for them.

Your own preview is different: it is built from your actual website, with your business name, branding and services. Every concept is reviewed by a person before it is sent to you.

In each example, features marked as simulated in a preview (booking, payments, messages) become real in a production app only once they are connected to a booking system, payment provider or back end.

Pet grooming and daycare

A grooming and daycare app is built around the pet, not just the owner.

Typical screens

  • Home: next appointment, quick "Book again" button and latest updates.
  • Pet profiles: breed, age, coat type, vaccination dates, allergies and temperament notes that staff can see before each visit.
  • Booking: choose a service (full groom, bath and tidy, nail clip), see available slots and confirm.
  • Daycare check-in: a simple log of drop-off and pick-up, with optional photo updates during the day.
  • Loyalty card: digital stamps for each groom.
  • Reminders: opt-in nudges when a regular groom or vaccination is due.

Automotive repair and servicing

For a garage, the most valuable thing an app can do is reduce phone calls.

Typical screens

  • My vehicles: registration, make, model and mileage for each car.
  • Reminders: opt-in reminders for servicing and, in the UK, the MOT due date.
  • Book a service: pick a service type and a drop-off time.
  • Repair status: see whether the car is booked in, being inspected, waiting for parts or ready to collect.
  • Quote approval: review extra work the technician recommends and approve or decline it in the app.
  • History: past invoices and work carried out.

Restaurants and cafés

Typical screens

  • Menu: categories, dishes, dietary and allergen information, prices.
  • Order ahead: collection or table ordering, with favourites and quick reorder.
  • Table booking: party size, date and time, special requests.
  • Loyalty: stamps or points per visit or order.
  • Offers: opt-in notifications about new dishes or quiet-period promotions.
  • Opening hours and directions.

Allergen information must come from the restaurant and be kept accurate; the app only displays it. Read more on the restaurants industry page.

Beauty salons and barbers

Typical screens

  • Services and prices: treatments with durations and descriptions.
  • Booking: choose a treatment, a stylist or therapist, and a time.
  • Rebook: one tap to book the same treatment again.
  • Client notes: colour formulas, patch-test dates or preferences, visible to staff.
  • Gallery: recent work from the salon's own portfolio.
  • Loyalty and gift cards.

Fitness studios and gyms

Typical screens

  • Class timetable: filter by class type, instructor or time.
  • Book a class: reserve a spot, join a waiting list, cancel within the studio's rules.
  • Membership: plan details, renewal date and class credits remaining.
  • Check-in: a digital membership card or code at reception.
  • Progress: optional personal notes or attendance history.
  • Announcements: timetable changes and studio news.

E-commerce shops

Typical screens

  • Shop: categories, search, product pages with photos and variants.
  • Basket and checkout: using the shop's existing payment provider.
  • Order tracking: order status and delivery updates.
  • Wishlist and reorder: save items and repeat previous orders.
  • Account: addresses, order history, returns.
  • Back-in-stock alerts: opt-in notifications.

A production shop app is normally connected to the existing store platform, for example Shopify or WooCommerce, through its API. Read more on the e-commerce industry page.

Professional services

For accountants, solicitors, consultants, clinics and similar practices, an app is usually a client portal.

Typical screens

  • Book a consultation: choose a meeting type and slot.
  • Documents: securely upload requested documents and download completed ones.
  • Case or job status: see what stage a matter or project is at.
  • Messages: contact the practice without email back-and-forth.
  • Invoices: view and pay invoices.
  • Key dates: deadlines and reminders.

Apps that handle sensitive client data need careful design around authentication, storage and data protection. Read more on the professional services industry page.

What makes an example useful for you

Every business is different, so these lists are starting points. The most useful first version usually focuses on two or three things customers do repeatedly, such as booking, reordering or checking a status, done really well.

The easiest way to see what this looks like for your own business is to request your free app preview.
