What it can include
- Vehicle profiles
- Customers add each vehicle with registration, make, model, mileage and key dates, so every booking is linked to the right car or van.
- MOT and service reminders
- Remind customers when an MOT or service is due, based on the dates held for their vehicle, by opt-in push notification or in-app message.
- Service and repair booking
- Book a service, MOT, diagnostic or repair slot, with options such as courtesy car requests or wait-while-you-go appointments.
- Live repair status
- Show simple stages such as received, being inspected, awaiting approval, in progress and ready for collection.
- Quote and extra-work approval
- When the technician finds additional work, send an itemised quote with photos that the customer can approve or decline in the app.
- Photos and notes from the workshop
- Attach photos of worn parts or damage so customers can see why work is recommended.
- Service history
- Keep a record of past visits, work carried out and invoices in one place for the customer.
Who this is for
This page is for independent garages, MOT test centres, tyre and exhaust centres, body shops, mobile mechanics and small groups of workshops. You may already have a website with your services and a phone number, and perhaps an online booking form. What usually happens next is a stream of phone calls: "Is my car ready?", "What did you find?", "Can you do the brakes as well?"
A garage app is designed to take some of that load off the phone while giving customers more confidence in the work you do.
What a garage app can do
Vehicle profiles
Customers add each vehicle once: registration, make, model, engine, approximate mileage and key dates such as MOT expiry and last service. Families and small fleet customers can hold several vehicles in one account. Every booking, quote and invoice is linked to a specific vehicle, which builds a useful history over time.
MOT and service reminders
In the UK, most cars need an MOT once they are three years old and then every year; GOV.UK explains the rules and lets drivers check MOT status. A garage app can use the dates held for each vehicle to remind customers ahead of time and link straight to booking. Service reminders can follow your own recommended intervals by time or mileage.
Booking for real workshop capacity
A good booking flow reflects how a workshop actually runs: MOT bays, ramp time, technician skills, drop-off times and whether the customer will wait. The app can offer the right slot types and collect useful information up front, such as warning lights or noises the customer has noticed.
Live repair status
Instead of calling, customers can open the app and see where their vehicle is: received, being inspected, awaiting approval, in progress, ready for collection. Your team updates status from a simple staff screen or, if available, from your garage management system.
Quote approval with photos
When a technician finds extra work, you can send an itemised quote with photos — a worn brake disc, a split CV boot, tyre tread depth — and the customer can approve or decline each line. This makes the conversation faster and gives you a clear record of what was authorised and when.
Service history and invoices
Past jobs, invoices and advisory notes stay in the app. That is helpful for customers selling a car, and it reminds them of advisories you flagged last time.
How the free personalised preview works for garages
- You send us your website address.
- We review your public content: services, opening hours, location, branding and photos.
- We build an app concept for a garage — vehicle profiles, MOT and service reminders, booking with your real service names, a repair status tracker and a quote approval screen.
- A person reviews the concept before it is sent.
- You receive a private link you can open on your phone or computer.
The preview is a concept. Booking, status updates and quotes are simulated and it is not connected to your systems. It helps you, your service advisers and your technicians judge whether the idea fits how you work.
How a project runs and what affects the cost
If you want to proceed, we agree scope first, then design, build, test and help you publish. Production apps are built with React Native, Expo and TypeScript so one codebase serves both iPhone and Android.
Custom apps start from €1,499 (indicative starting price). The main cost drivers for garages are:
- Integration with garage management software. Reading jobs and status from an existing system is valuable but depends on that system offering an API.
- Staff tools. A technician or adviser screen for status updates, photos and quotes is a second set of screens to design and build.
- Quote approval logic. Itemised approve/decline flows, audit records and notifications add backend work.
- Accounts and vehicle data. Secure logins and multi-vehicle accounts need a proper backend.
- Payments. Taking deposits or payment on collection requires a payment provider integration.
- Maintenance. Apps need regular updates as iOS, Android and your connected systems change.
Honest limitations
- Automatic vehicle data is not guaranteed. Looking up vehicle details or MOT history depends on suitable data sources and their terms of use.
- Store approval is Apple's and Google's decision. We build to their guidelines, but neither store guarantees approval. Apple expects apps to offer real functionality beyond a website.
- Notifications require opt-in. On iPhone, and on Android 13 and later, customers must allow notifications. Status should always be visible in the app as well.
- Your workflow has to support it. Live status and photo quotes only work if technicians update them. We design quick staff screens, but it is still a habit to build.
- Legal terms still apply. An in-app approval is a convenient record, but your terms and consumer law obligations do not change because the approval happened in an app.
Is an app right for your garage?
An app is most worthwhile when you have repeat customers, regular MOT and service work, or fleet clients who want visibility. If most of your work is one-off breakdown repairs for passing trade, a clear website and phone line may serve you better. Seeing a free concept built around your own garage is a practical way to decide.
Frequently asked questions
Can the app check MOT due dates automatically?
It can store and remind customers about MOT dates you or they enter. Pulling MOT data automatically from an official source is possible only where a suitable API is available and its terms allow your use case, so we check that during scoping rather than promising it up front.
Can customers approve extra work in the app?
Yes. The technician or service adviser sends an itemised quote, optionally with photos, and the customer approves or declines each item. The app keeps a timestamped record. You should still follow your usual terms and consumer law obligations around authorising work.
Will it integrate with my garage management system?
That depends on whether your garage management software provides an API and allows access on your plan. If it does, the app can read bookings and job status from it. If not, the app can run its own booking and status backend, which your team updates directly.
Do customers have to download an app to get updates?
For the app features, yes. Some customers will prefer text or email, so many garages keep those channels alongside the app. The app is most useful for regular customers, fleet clients and families with several vehicles.
Is the preview a real app I can publish?
No. The preview is an interactive concept in your browser that shows how your garage's app could look and work. It uses your branding and services, but bookings, quotes and status updates are simulated.
