Mobile Apps for Pet Grooming and Dog Daycare Businesses

A pet grooming or daycare app gives your regular customers one place to book appointments, keep their pet's details up to date, receive check-in updates and collect loyalty rewards. Apptavio builds custom iPhone and Android apps for grooming salons and daycares, and can show you a free interactive concept based on your website first.

What it can include

Pet profiles
Each pet gets its own profile with breed, age, coat type, vaccination dates, allergies, temperament notes and handling preferences that your team can see before the appointment.
Grooming and daycare booking
Owners pick a service, a pet and a time slot that reflects real durations — a full groom for a large double-coated breed takes longer than a nail trim.
Daycare check-in and updates
Staff mark a dog as checked in or out, and can post a short note or photo so owners know how the day is going.
Vaccination and document reminders
Remind owners when a recorded vaccination date is approaching expiry, so daycare admission rules are easier to keep.
Digital loyalty stamps
Replace paper stamp cards with an in-app card that fills up automatically after each completed visit.
Rebooking reminders
Suggest the next groom based on the interval you recommend for that pet, sent as an opt-in push notification.
Packages and daycare passes
Show remaining days on a multi-day daycare pass or a grooming package so owners always know their balance.

Who this is for

This page is for independent dog groomers, mobile grooming vans, grooming salons with several groomers, dog daycares and businesses that combine grooming, daycare and boarding. What these businesses have in common is a base of regular customers who come back every few weeks, care deeply about their pets, and need to share a fair amount of information with you: vaccination records, behaviour notes, allergies, collection times.

If most of that information currently lives in phone calls, WhatsApp messages, paper forms and a booking calendar, a dedicated app can bring it together in one place that both owners and staff can rely on.

What a pet grooming or daycare app can do

Pet profiles that travel with every booking

The most useful feature for many groomers is a proper pet profile. Owners add each pet once — name, breed, age, weight, coat type, photo — and keep it up to date. Your team can add internal notes, such as "nervous with clippers near ears" or "muzzle for nail trims", that owners do not see. Every booking is linked to a pet rather than just a person, so the groomer knows exactly who is arriving and what to expect.

Booking that understands grooming

Generic booking forms treat every appointment as a fixed slot. Grooming does not work like that. A bath and brush for a small short-haired dog and a full hand-strip for a large terrier are very different jobs. A custom booking flow can calculate likely duration from the service and the pet's size and coat, limit certain services to specific groomers, and respect your daycare capacity on a given day.

Daycare check-in, check-out and updates

For daycares, the app can show owners when their dog has been checked in and out, plus an optional short note or photo from the day. Staff use a simple screen, typically on a shared tablet or phone, to tap through the day's list. This tends to reduce "how is she getting on?" calls while giving owners reassurance.

Vaccination and document tracking

Many daycares only accept dogs with up-to-date vaccinations. The app can store the dates owners provide, show a clear status on each pet profile and remind owners before something lapses. Your team still makes the final decision on whether a dog can attend; the app simply makes the information visible.

Loyalty, packages and rebooking

Digital stamp cards fill automatically after completed visits, so nobody loses a paper card. Multi-day daycare passes and grooming packages can show a remaining balance. After each groom, the app can suggest the next appointment based on the interval you recommend for that pet, and send a reminder if the owner has opted in to notifications.

How the free personalised preview works for groomers

Before you spend anything, we can build an interactive concept of your app from your existing website:

  1. You send us your website address using the request form.
  2. We review your public content: your services and prices, opening hours, location, branding colours and photos.
  3. We design an app concept around a grooming or daycare business — pet profiles, a booking flow using your real service names, a loyalty card and daycare updates where relevant.
  4. A person on our team reviews the concept before it is sent.
  5. You receive a private link and can open it on your phone or computer. It looks and behaves like a mobile app.

The preview is a concept, not a finished app. Bookings, payments and notifications in it are simulated. Its purpose is to let you, your staff and perhaps a few trusted customers react to something concrete rather than a written proposal.

How a project runs and what affects the cost

If you decide to go ahead, we agree the scope together, then design, build and test the app. Production apps are built with React Native, Expo and TypeScript, which lets one codebase run on both iPhone and Android.

Custom apps start from €1,499 (indicative starting price), but the final cost depends mainly on:

  • Number of screens and features. A booking flow with pet profiles and a loyalty card is a smaller project than one that also includes daycare updates, packages and a staff app.
  • Integrations. Connecting to an existing booking or grooming system takes more work than a standalone booking backend, and is only possible if that system has an API you can access.
  • Accounts and data. Owner logins, pet records and uploaded documents need a secure backend and careful access control.
  • Payments and deposits. Taking deposits for no-show protection or selling packages adds payment provider integration.
  • Notifications and photos. Push notifications and photo uploads add backend work and storage.
  • Ongoing maintenance. Apple and Google release new operating system versions every year, and apps need updates to keep working well.

Honest limitations

  • App Store and Google Play review is not in our control. We follow Apple's and Google's guidelines, but the final decision belongs to them. Apple in particular expects apps to offer more than a repackaged website, so the app needs genuinely useful features such as pet profiles and booking.
  • Push notifications need permission. Owners must agree to receive them, and some will say no. Important information should always be visible inside the app too.
  • Integrations depend on your existing software. Some grooming and booking tools do not offer an API, or only on higher plans.
  • Staff adoption matters. Daycare photo updates only work if your team has time to post them. We design the staff side to be quick, but it is still a change in routine.
  • Pet and owner data must be handled carefully. Contact details, addresses and documents are personal data. We design with data protection in mind, but you remain responsible for how your business uses that data.

Is an app right for your grooming business?

An app makes the most sense when you have a loyal customer base that books regularly, you want to reduce admin around pet details and reminders, and you would like a more personal channel with owners than email. If you only see occasional one-off customers, a good booking page may be enough. The free preview is a low-risk way to find out which side of that line you are on.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an app if I already have online booking?

Not necessarily. If your booking tool already works well and customers are happy, an app is mainly worth it when you want things a booking page cannot do easily: pet profiles owners keep updated, daycare photo updates, loyalty stamps and push reminders in one place. The free preview helps you judge whether that adds enough value for your customers.

Can the app connect to the grooming or booking software I already use?

Often, but it depends on whether your current software offers an API and whether your subscription plan allows access to it. We check this early. If there is no usable API, the app can use its own booking backend instead, or link out to your existing booking page as an interim step.

Can owners upload vaccination certificates?

Yes, an app can let owners photograph or upload certificates and store the expiry date. Because this is personal data, we design it with access controls and a clear retention policy, and your team still decides whether a document is acceptable.

Will owners definitely receive daycare photo notifications?

Only if they allow notifications. On iPhone, and on Android 13 and later, the app must ask for permission and the owner can say no or turn it off later. Updates still appear inside the app either way.

Is the free preview a working app?

No. It is an interactive concept that runs in your browser and shows how your app could look and feel with your business name, services and branding. Bookings and payments in the preview are simulated. It is there to help you decide before committing to development.
