FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Apptavio builds custom iPhone and Android apps for small businesses and offers a free, personalised interactive app concept first. Below are direct answers about the preview, pricing, process, technology, app stores, ownership, maintenance and privacy.

The free app preview

The preview is a personalised, interactive app concept built from your existing website. It opens in a browser and feels like a mobile app, with your name, branding and services. It is free, carries no obligation and does not require payment details.

It is a concept, not a finished app: it is not in any app store, and booking, payments and messages are simulated. Every concept is reviewed by a person before we email you the private link, and we do not promise a fixed turnaround.

Pricing

Our indicative starting price is from €1,499. That is a starting point, not a quote. What drives the final price:

  • number and complexity of screens
  • features such as booking, shop, loyalty or messaging
  • integrations with your existing software
  • back end and admin tools
  • customer accounts and authentication
  • payments
  • push notifications
  • device capabilities (camera, location, wallet passes)
  • ongoing maintenance

Separate costs usually include the Apple and Google developer account fees (paid directly to them), any third-party services and maintenance. We explain these before you commit.

Process

After you have seen your preview, we agree the scope of a focused first version, quote, then design, build and test with you, submit to the stores and maintain the app. To start, all we need is your website address.

Technology

We build production apps with React Native, Expo and TypeScript: one codebase for iPhone and Android, with native modules where a feature needs them. Integrations with booking systems, online shops, CRMs or till systems depend on those systems offering an API and your plan allowing access.

App Store and Google Play

Apple and Google review every app and make the final publishing decision; nobody can guarantee approval. Apple's guidelines also discourage apps that simply repackage a website, so we design apps with genuinely useful phone features.

Ownership

Apps are published under developer accounts in your business's name, so the listings are yours. Code and design ownership is set out in your contract.

Maintenance

Operating systems, store rules and third-party APIs change every year. Apps need regular updates to keep working well, and we offer maintenance plans for this.

Privacy

To create a preview we use only publicly available content from your website. We use AI tools to help with analysis and drafting, with a person reviewing every concept. You can ask us to delete your preview or your details at any time; our privacy policy explains how we process data and what your rights are.

What is the free app preview?

It is a personalised, interactive concept of your app built from your existing public website. It opens in a browser on your phone or computer and uses your business name, branding and services. It is a concept, not a finished app.

Does the preview cost anything or commit me to anything?

No. The preview is free, there is no obligation and we do not ask for payment details.

How quickly will I receive my preview?

It depends on demand and on your website. Every concept is reviewed by a person, and we email you when yours is ready. We do not promise an instant or fixed turnaround.

Can I book or pay in the preview?

No. Booking, payments and messages are simulated in the preview. They become real in the production app once connected to a booking system, payment provider or back end.

How much does an app cost?

Our indicative starting price is from €1,499. The final price depends on the number of screens, features, integrations, back-end work, user accounts, payments, notifications, device capabilities and ongoing maintenance. We quote after agreeing scope.

Are there other costs besides building the app?

Usually, yes. Apple charges an annual Apple Developer Program fee and Google a one-off Play Console registration fee, paid directly to them. Hosting, third-party services and maintenance may also have ongoing costs. We explain these before you commit.

How long does it take to build an app?

It depends on scope, how quickly feedback is given and store review. We give an honest estimate once the first version's scope is agreed, and we do not promise unrealistic deadlines.

What do I need to provide?

To start, just your website address. For the build: feedback, logo files, access to any systems we integrate with, time for testing and developer accounts in your business's name.

What technology do you use?

Production apps are built with React Native, Expo and TypeScript, using one codebase for iPhone and Android, with native modules where needed.

Can the app connect to my booking system or online shop?

Often, yes, if that system offers an API and your plan allows access. We check this early, because what is possible depends on the third-party system.

Can you guarantee my app will be accepted by the App Store and Google Play?

No one can. Apple and Google review every submission and make the final decision. We build to their published guidelines and help you prepare and respond to reviewer feedback.

Can you just turn my website into an app?

Apple's guidelines discourage apps that are only a repackaged website. We design apps with features that are useful on a phone, such as booking, loyalty, reordering or account features, often reusing content from your site.

Who owns the app?

Your app is published under developer accounts in your business's name, so the store listings are yours. Ownership of code and designs is set out in your contract, which you should read before signing.

Do apps need maintenance after launch?

Yes. New iOS and Android versions, store policy changes and third-party API updates mean apps need regular updates. We offer maintenance plans for this.

Will my app send push notifications?

Only to customers who allow them. iPhone users must opt in, and Android 13 and later also asks for permission. We recommend using notifications sparingly for useful reminders and updates.

What data do you use to create my preview?

Only publicly available content from your website, such as services, products, opening hours, branding and images. We do not need logins or access to your systems for the preview.

Do you use AI to create the preview?

We use AI tools to help analyse your website and draft the concept, and a person reviews every concept before it is sent. Our privacy policy explains which providers process data on our behalf.

Can I ask you to delete my preview or my details?

Yes. Email [email protected] and we will remove your preview and handle your request in line with data protection law. Our privacy policy explains your rights.
